1. History

OZtell's Internet Services grew from KbDnet (an old division of Knowledge by Design (KbD)), which had operated as a niche ISP since January 1996.

In Australia, KbDnet was

(1) the first ISP to consistently produce our own weekly videos for broadcast on the Internet, showcasing our ability to rapidly produce videos over the Internet at a very low cost,

(2) the first ISP to provide guaranteed access availability (no "dial-in" busy tone), showcasing our capacity planning skills,

(3) the first ISP to provide native country news groups (like hk.*, tw.*) not available from the Australian backbone feeds, show casing our ability to access overseas Internet resources,

(4) the first ISP to supply Internet Sharing Hubs to its customers allowing internal connectivity between their local computers as well as shared external connectivity to the Internet via a single phone line, show casing our capacity in deploying innovative products with our services. While not the first, KbDnet was one of the firsts in Australia to provide Global Roaming, 56K and 2M accesses.

In year 2000, the KbDnet division was merged into the OZtell division of KbD, creating a single business that provides both data and phone services to our customers.

2. Value-Added Services

As Internet bandwidth (and its provisioning) become more competitive with lower margins, OZtell has decided to move away from providing straight Internet access to our users towards our strength of providing valued-added Internet services.

OZtell Value-Added Internet Services becomes Internet Services Provider (ISP) independent in mid-2004. Other ISPs now become our partners instead of our competition.

We currently provide 3 different types of Value-Added Internet Services to our own and other ISPs' Broadband, Dial-Up and Hosting customers respectively.

From December 2004 onwards, OZtell does not provide Broadband access directly to customers anymore (we will keep providing broadband access to those that have joined before that though). All broadband services provided by OZtell to new customers are now through our broadband partners.

For more traditional Internet Services, like Dial-Up and Hosting, OZtell has decided to maintain a small yet advanced capability for those customers who want a niche ISP that always stays a few steps ahead of the rest ...
